So it Doesn't Spill
Family members were always louder, more outspoken, and expressive of their feelings while mine were twisted, contorted, and begged to be released from my throat. Controlling the chaos became a mask of independence, disguising a deep desire for understanding and connection.
This collection of images translates all the words I am unable to share, from a psychological space into a photographic one. The environment doesn’t always cause claustrophobia; at times it is created by the body. Panicked and tense emotions are given space here to be released through awkward and bizarre body forms in ambiguous spaces. “So it Doesn’t Spill” is a visual depiction of the internal gymnastics performed to contain emotions that threaten to spill out into the world.
